A “HURRY-UP” LETTER

FRIENDLY NOTE FROM KARA. Kara, North Auckland. Hear Kupe, This is rather a belated letter which I should have written two days ago when I posted my entry for your competition. 1 received your letter and postal note last Wednesday (a week ago today). Oh! Kupe! I was pleased, also pleasantly surprised when T opened your letter. After that T felt very impatient waiting for next mail-day (Friday). When I would see my name printed on the “Young Northlander” page. We don’t get Wednesday’s paper till Friday, hut that “Advocate” was worth waiting for. To see my name printed three times in different places on that page gave me such a thrill!!! I started writing you a letter next mail-day, but when I had written a few lines along came my sister. “Oh Rose!” she said. “Do hurry, or you will miss the mail,” so, as I could not possibly write a letter with her telling me to “hurry up” I left it until today. My two sisters and brother, are very keen on winning a prize too, now that I have done so. Therefore Kupe, don’t be surprised if you receive numerous entries for your puzzle from wo four children. At ten o’clock this morning, we have to take all the letters that we want posted to the main road about threequarters of a mile away. Our mail conies three times a week, so my sister and I rather enjoy that walk to get it. Sometimes we catch our two horses which are too old and fat to do much work, and ride for it. We have four horses altogether, Bob and Bess, two big draught horses who do all the hard work, and Dick and Tony who arc older and therefore onlv do odd jobs. I’ll have to end this letter abruptly now, Kupe, as my sister is telling me to “hurry up” again. From one of your Tribe, Rose Attwnod.
