Marechal was scratched for the Tourists’ Handicap at 3.30 p.m. yesterday. It is understood that Marechal broke down while working on the track at Te Awamutu yesterday morning. AUCKLAND RACES TITLE OF RACE ALTERED. (Special to “Northern Advocate,"} AUCKLAND, This Day. At a meeting of the committee of the Auckland Racing Club yesterday, it was decided to alter the title of the Autumn Handicap, the principal event on the second day of the Easter meeting, to the H. 0, Nolan Handicap. The alteration was made as a mark of respect to the late Mr H. O. Nolan, who was president of the club. CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB INCREASE IN STAKES. BETTING SYSTEM UNALTERED. The Canterbury Jockey Club decided yesterday to increase the stakes for the autumn meeting, to be held on April 2 and 3, The stake for the Great Easter Handicap was increased from 500 sovs to GOO sovs, and for the Great Autumn Handicap, from 500 sovs to 600 sovs. The total stakes for the two days amount to 4,0G0 sovs, an increase of 485 sovs.

.For the summer meeting, to be held on Saturday of next week, the committee decided to adhere to the win-and-place betting system, and to have only one enclosure in use.
