SHOPLIFTING CHARGE.

As a sequel to an epidemic of shoplifting at Marton, a young married woman, M. Forrest, was sentenced- todky to 28 days’ gaol .on. one charge of shoplifting, * and was convicted and discharged on four other counts. She has five children, the eldest beipg six and the youngest three weeks old. The magistrate refused probation, on .account of accused’s repeated breaches while on release on bail and her failure to show regret for the offences.
