CRICKET TOURNEY

FIVE EMPIRE COUNTRIES INCLUDING NEW ZEALAND. PLANS BEING CONSIDERED. (United Press Association— By ElectrU Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 17. The “Daily Mirror” says it has the highest authority for stating that plans are being considered already for holding an Empire cricket tournament in 1936 between England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, and New Zealand.

It has been suggested that all these countries should play each other twice, each game to be played to a finish and points to be awarded on similar lines to the system used in the English county championship, which would be suspended for the one season. A generous proportion of the proceeds would be paid to the various counties to enable them to pay professionals and continue thc championships in the following year. The project is to be discussed at the Imperial Cricket Conference. The Mirror adds Ijiat some drastic step is needed if the game is to retain its traditional position in the life of the nation.
