DE VALERA TACTICS
ELECTION SLOGAN. ABOLITION OF SENATE. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 17. The Dublin correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says it is-realised now that; the Irish Free State Government may decide to force an election, with the abolition of the Senate as the main objective. This will win much support. On tho other hand, however, Mr de Valera has lost support by the revival of the Public Safety Act and the suggestion that a surtax will be imposed or. incomes of more than £2009. This would affect about 2000 taxpayers.
