WINTER WOOL SALE

DEMAND FOR ODDMENTS COMPETITION VERY KEEN. PRICES ON UP-GRADE. (Special to "Northern Advocate.”) WELLINGTON, This Day. In view of the recent rise in wool values, much interest attached to thie winter sale of crntching pieces and oddments held yesterday in Wellington, this being the first auction since the close of the roster sales last April. Seven catalogues were offered and comprised over 4000 bales, the bulk of which was crutehings and pieces, there being about 800 bales of fleece wools. - There was a fairly representative bench of buyers. Competition was free and at times very keen, all good lines meeting with spirited bidding. Continental buyers and Australian and lo.ml mills took the bulk of the best cmtchings, for which there was an excellent demand. It is understood there were some good buying orders from Japan. Local scourers and fellmongers showed no hesitation in securing their requirements. Over 90 per cent of the total offerings was sold at the auction.

The sale reflected the recent general improvement in the market. Crutchin gs sold (generally at Id to 2d per lb T higher than in April, while fleece wools which, were passed then at 33d to 3|d per lb sold today at up to s£d and in some cases a shade better. Super crossbred erutehings sold up to 6sd. Crossbred pieces and bellies made 23d to sd.' There was keen competition for small lines of fine wool. Two small lots of southdowns made 123 d to 12Jd respectively, and fine halfbreds went - to 10Jd. Fine crossbreds sold freely at 63d to 83d, and medium crossbreds nt s*3d to 63d.
