(Special to ‘‘Northern Advocate-”' AUCKLAND, This Day. Perfect weather prevailed this morning for the final gallop at Ellerslie, and trainers had the use of the course proper on which the poles were do feet out from the rails. The going was slightly on the dead side. Course Proper. My Money and Gay Broney were tht* first out, being sent five furlongs. They ran the first two in 27sec, and com pleted the gallop in LS. They were on terms at the finish, My Money, on the outside, impressing. Glenromney was not doing his best at any part of six furlongs which he completed in 1.25 4-5. He is more solid looking than he was last season. Mountain Breeze finished in front of Mahkill after traversing three furlongs in 41 2-ssec, the former shaping well for a novice. Over a similar distance Love Story registered 42 2-ssec.

Supremo Ruler jumped away at the half-mile post, and after running his first furlong in .13 I-osec, completed his task in 51 4-ssec. Chief Emerald assisted him over the last two furlongs and a half, the pair being on terms at the finish. Supreme Ruler went well. Dark Marble ran his furlong in If l-ssec, and got to the end of half a mile in 54 4-osec. He was running on solidly at the finish.

Wee Pat and the Surveyor—To Moti gelding were companions over six furlongs. They ran the first three in 40 3-osec, and the full distance in 1.24 4-5. Wee Pat was going the hotter of the pair at the end. Patutahi did strong work over * round which he covered in 2,20 1-5, He could have improved on this. Deputy Ruler went away slowly from the six furlong post taking 41 l-ssec for the first three furlongs, and finishing up in 1.22 1-5. Darina assisted him over the last three furlongs and was in front when the post was reached. Deputy Ruler carried a good weight and his effort was satisfactory, though he mav need a race before striking his best form. Caliente was given an easy six fur longs, but did not have any pace on till the last three, which she covered in 43sec. This filly Is standing up to her work well. King March, Hushing and Gay Cockade were, in that order at the end o? six furlongs in 1.21 4-ssoc, the first three taking 40 2-5. ’ King March worked well, though Hushing, who was c.n the outer and covered, a lot of ground could have been closer at the finish. Lordp Val and Chief Cook were timed to run three furlongs in 3!) 4-ssec, They were together at the finish, though Lord Val was going well within himself. Kiltowyn began at the six-furlong post from a standing start and after running his first three furlongs in 40 2-ssee, completed the gallop in 1.21 2-5. He carried a very light weight, but his performance was a good one. After schooling, Zane Grey was worked over six furlongs with the Highland Chief and Grant’s Opal, being a shade in front at the finish in 1.28 2-5. Number 3 Grass. Sinking Fund‘was given strong work, traversing his last half-mile in 55 3-53, He looks iu nice order and was going comfortably at the end. Others to do useful work’ were; — Toremai, Arohamai, Manawhenna, Conrthaven, Solomon, .Towelled Girdle, Catoma, BiTonn, Aspect, Sir Val, Gay Rose, Sporting Song, Irish Song, King Musk, Gay Marigold, Neil, Engle’s Pride, Prince Colossus, Very Well, Chief Clerk, Lady Pandora, Barograph and Lady Diana. The Jumpers. Glonade (R. E. Thomson) was schooled over four hurdles in the centre o: the course and gave a dashing display I hough lie got in rather close to Up. last obstacle. He afterwards did strong work on the grass. Ironic (Mcllroy), Ruby Meteor (R. E Thomson) and Zane Grey (H. Dulicin were schooled over the steeplechase fences. Zane Grey was pulled up aftw jumping the stone wall, the other two continuing over the hill. After jumping the stonewall at the foot of the hill they wore pulled on to the course proper, finishing their work with a sprint down the straight. Ruby Meteor gave a good display, and Ironic jumped safe-

ly, though he baulked a bit at the second. Zane Grey’s effort was also a pleasing one. At Te Rapa. The Hamilton correspondent of the “Northern Advocate.” states that Chang injured his off shoulder during the week and is not to race at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting. Tradesman this morning ran three furlongs in MSsec, and Lady Quex got to the- end of six furlongs in 1.211, the first five taking 1.7. Scratchings. Domo was scratched for the Greenmount Steeplechase, to be decided at Ellerslie at eight o’clock this morning.

TAKANINI TASKS,

TATYOON GOES FAST, GAY SHEILA AND SPLEDMIXT. THE HIKER FENCES WELL. (Special to “Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The middle grass track, with Flic poles twenty feet out, was open at Takanini this morning. The going was excellent and some useful gallops wore recorded. Alignment was the first out, being allotted an easy six furlongs which ho accomplished in 1.20, being anxious to increase the pace. Gallant Knight sprinted two furlongs along the back in 2b 2-bsec, doing it well. Tatyoon got to the end of five furlongs in Lb 2-bsec—a satisfactory effort. Speedmint jumped off at the mile post, taut the pace was not on till reaching the seven furlongs stake. Gay Sheila joined her at the sixth, and the pair finished together in 1.34 2-b. Both could have done better. High Crest ran three furlongs in .18 4-bsec, shaping well. Greek Gold and Tavern Knight wore on terms at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 4-5. The former was doing the better of the pair at the finish, and both have excellent prospects at the Pakuranga, meeting. Tavern Knight, in the event of Lord Val not starting in. the Dunedin Handicap, will be ridden by H. Wiggins. Cherry King got the better of the jump off with Diversion, and was going slightly better at the end of half a mile in b2sec. Haupore jumped away a length in front of the Paper Money —Killena colt and Eldora at the three furlongs post and maintained his advantage to the end in 38 4-bsec. Eldora could have done better. The Hiker gave an excellent display of jumping over four hurdles. He ran the last mile (which included three fences) in 1.54. The Hiker should go well ou Saturday. WINOOKA AMISS. ATTACK OF LARVNTGTNITIS. (Received 9.30 n.m.) SEATTLE, August Uk Air W. McDonald, part owner of Winooka sabl today that the Australian thoroughbred had an attack of larynigitis which will set him back in training but that the indisposition was not regarded as even bordering on critical. Air AfcDnnald ridicules the reports in London that the horse was in a serious condition, and said he could not understand how such statements were spread unless they were inspired by the consultation hold yesterday by four veterinarians regarding Winooka, Air McDonald said: —“Winooka Is

First Division. —Movie Star, 9.;1» (T. Webster), 1; Greenline, 11,0 (Pike), 2; Mainland, 8.7 (Smith), 3, Thirteen started. Won by two lengths. Time —L2SL Flying Handicap, of 100 sovs; six firlongs. —Topical, 8.7 (Weiss), 1; Derm id, 8.11 (Cook), 2; Limarch, 8.12 (Bartle), 3. Fourteen started, including Amman Ra (N.Z.), who is having his first race for a. year. He looked like winning, but faded away only a furlong from home. Topical greatly surprised by winning by a length. Onlookers saw a real class race reminiscent of Randwick meetings, Limarch was a length away third. Ammon Ra, ridden by McCarteu. was fourth. Time —1.14 —equal In course record. The New Zealander, Prince Pombal, ran third in the second division of the Three and Four-year-old Handicap. At the Australian Jockey Club’s annual meeting, it was announced that the profit for the past year was £1,931, compared with a loss of £0,437 in the previous year. While the financial results of the past year were better by more than £B,OOO, the amount passed through the totalisators at Randwick and Warwick Farm during the year totalled £642,432, compared with £824,123 in the previous year. The clubs decided to provide a classic race for two-year-old fillies at future autumn meetings.
