MR JOHN MCDONALD DIED EARLY THIS MORNING. DAY AFTER 9CTH BIRTHDAY. The death occurred early this morning of Mr John McDonald, formerly of Waipu, at the age of 96 years. Mr McDonald, "who had been living with his daughter, Mrs E. K. Plaisted, of Caller’s Avenue, celebrated his 96th birthday only yesterday, but he w r as not in good health and was confined to his bed.

Practically up to the time of his death Mr McDonald enjoyed good health, retaining all his faculties, and he only began to fail in the last few days.

Mr McDonald was very well known in the Waipu and Whangarci districts, years of age with his father, and afIle went to Waipu when he w T as 17 ter spending a period prospecting in the Thames goldfields he came to Whangarci in 1880, remaining here until the time of his death. The funeral will leave the residence of his daughter in Carter’s Avenue at noon on Friday. A number of interesting details in connection with Mr McDonald’s long and varied life -were published yesterday on the oeeasion of his 96th birthday.
