REOPENING OF MINE. A party has been busy in reopening the Keep-it-Dark quartz mine at Reefton, which returned good dividends some years ago. Golden Ledge tunnel has been reopened for C6O feet, 'and from the crosscut the intermediate level was reached. A nice sample of stone was taken out. The reef in this level has about 250 feet of backs. As this block of stone in the Golden Ledge is in virgin country. It should open up a new mine altogether. It is understood that the oAvners' purpose is to erect a small battery and work the area themselves.

KAPOWAI AMALGAMATED.

At a meeting of shareholders in the Kapowai Amalgamated Gold-mining Company, Ltd., held, at Auckland on Saturday, a scheme was adopted which will enable the company to erect and equip a small battery, now idle on its property, in the Mercury Bay district. The Zealandia Packing Co., Ltd., advises that it has completed at Whangaroa the first unit of its factory for the freezing, bottling and canning of fish for the New Zealand and export markets. The factory is well situated, from both the eoramerciaj and the hygienic point of view, and modern machinery has been installed. Production on a commercial scale has commenced.
