FAREWELL GATHERING
NGARARATUNUA SETTLERS. " AU REVOIR TO MR AND MRS v BAIN. i Settlers of the Ngararatunua district and members of the Kamo Presbyterian Church assembled on Saturday evening to farewell Mr J. Bain and family, who are leaving the district to take up their residence at Mangere, Auckland. The gathering was held at Mr Bain’s house, and the evening was spent with dancing, community singing, and with games for the children, arranged by Mr A. Brown. Mrs MeInnes and Miss Tarrant rendered softie delightful musical numbers. ' Mr and Mrs Bain were presented with a table set of cut-glass dishes-by their many well-wishers, and Helen Bain was presented with an attache case from the school children. Nancy Brown made the latter presentation, and Mr D. J. Finla.yson made the pre- | sentation to Mr and Mrs Bain. I In doing so he said that Mr and j Mrs Bain had always done their share toivards the social and material advancement of the district, and. more especially the advancement of the two world institutions which did the most good—the church and the school. He trusted they would be happy and prosperous in their new home. A
Mr P. Gr. Thorley spoke oh behalf of the School Committee, and told of the good work which Afr Bain had done in that connection. Afr Bain expressed the regret he and his family felt at having to leave the district, where they had made so many firm friends, but circumstances > were such that they had to make a new v homo. He thanked the donors of the gifts for their kindly thought. A bounteous supper provided by the ladies of the district and the singing of “Auld Lang .Syne” and “God Save the King” brought an enjoyable function to an end.
