WHANGAREI FIRM DESIRES RECIPROCITY. NEW ZEALAND BUTTER BEST. Some months ago a Whangarci firm received a letter from a business house in the United States of America, seeking orders. The local people replied that until more reciprocity in trade with New Zealand was established on the part of the United States, they could not contemplate .purchasing. Today a reply was received from the San Francisco firm, stating, inter j alia:—
“In reference to our getting busy and demanding New Zealand blitter, choose, etc., this strikes the writer as peculiarly personal, as six months of the year ho has the pleasure of consuming nothing but New Zealand butter, mutton and lamb (not certain as regards to cheese mentioned, as one’s waistline must necessarily be kept in order when travelling in the Hawaiian Islands during this period, and it is all New Zealand products in the Islands). “In all fairness, the writer can truthfully state that the New Zealand butter lias the edge on the Californian product. Only this morning in the ‘San Francisco Chronicle’ was an article advising that the Matson liner Mariposa, amongst other New Zealand products, carried nearly .1000 bales of your wool, 80 you can see we are doing our best to'even matters.’’
