WHITE STAR WIN. A CLOSE GAME. In the A. grade, White Star met Huia on No. 2 ground at Kensington Park and eventually emerged winners by 2 goals to nil. Huia played one short and put up a good fight. In the opening stages Huia took play to White Star’s goal-mouth, but a sh.>t ,at goal went astray. Huia had the advantage following a free hit, but Star soon took the offensive and Huia had to work hard to keep the ball clear of the net. Play slackened for a time, with nothing of much interest taking place till Miss Abbott opened the game up, but Huia managed to collect the ball and Miss Lenne was called upon to defend White .Star’s goal. In turn, Miss Osborne put White Star in a good position and for some moments things looked dangerous for Huia, Not for, long, however, as a minute later White Star’s goalie had to clear with a brilliant kick. Just be-

fore half-time Miss Abbott deflected the ball and held up a promising move. There was no score when the interval came. The sbcond half opened in much the same manner as the first, with both sides taking spells at attacking, but without success. From a penalty corner Huia nearly scored, and a little later Mrs Lynch put Huia in a nice position,, carrying the ball right up the line. A goal looked imminent, but play swung back and suddenly the first score came, Mrs Saul netting. Off-side spoiled another likely chance. A few minutes before the end, after some even midfield play, White Star scored again, Miss O. Abbott shooting accurately, making the final tally:— White Star 2, Huia 0, Mrs McLeod and Mr Patterson refereed.

HARROW MARGIN. OLD GIRLS SUCCEED. Old Girls fought out a hard game with Wesley in the A. Grade. At halftime there was no score and Wesley were fighting every inch of the way. Not long after starting Miss Sterling put the ball out for Miss Simons to carry it up the wing and to Wesley’s goal-mouth. Miss McKay saved , well Old Girls still attacked and misfeed a nice opening when Miss Tibi its fumbled. Wesley then had a spell of attacking. When Old Girls cleared, how ever, Miss Crawford failed to stop the ball and the former had two shots at goal, but both wore jnst outside. Old Girls had been doing most of the press* ing so far and their goalie, Mias Kelly, was having little to do. Mias Tibbits figured in a great run upfiold, but as before, Wesley’s defence wns too hml a proposition to beat. At the interval neither side had succeeded in netting the ball. /

Wesley started the second spell by forcing matters to Old Girls’ circle, an 1 Miss Kelly had to clear when a strong shot came in. Both sides were being caught offside frequently, and several nice positions were spoilt on this account.. Old Girls, who had been on the do fence for a spell, suddenly swept back and Miss Stewart made no mistake, beating the goalie to notch the first goal of the game. Miss McKay had to save twice following until Wesley relieved the siege. Offside play ruined what appeared to be an almost certain goal for Wesley. Old Girls seemed to ho slackening off slightly at this stage. Attack and counter attack marked the concluding stages of the game, but just before time was called Miss E. Simons shot straight, following a movement which took Old Girls’ into Wesley’s circle—Old Girls 2, Wesley 0.

INCONCLUSIVE. HORA HORA AND ’KARAMEA. At Maungakaramea, Hora Hora ladies tried conclusions with the local team. In the first half, Mauhgakkvamea commeneed to press very hard, and their efforts were eventually rewarded by a beautiful goal from a difficult angle off the stick of Miss Porter. Before half-time was called Hora Hora equalised with a good goal by Miss Richards, ; In the second half Hora Hora had slightly the better of the game ana rallied many times in an effort to get the winning goal, but were foiled by the splendid back play of the Maunga karamea ladies. The game, which ended in a draw one goal each, was not a good exhibition ot hockey, both sides being penalised a number of times for obstruction.

The ■final tally was s—o,5 —0, ‘ Scorers were Misses Qloyne (3), Holmes and Allan. Mrs McLeod and Mr Laurie refereed. Four—One. RAMBLERS BEAT ROVERS, Ramblers, by defeating Rovers by two goals to one at Kensington Park .yesterday, annexed the Bargain Store Cup. The game was hard and' fast, with many interesting incidents. At halftime the score was one all, and it might have been anyone’s game. In the second half Ramblers scored again, and though Rovers pressed hard they could not equalise. J. Beasley and B. Wilson scored for Ramblers and Simpson for Rovers.

which Page was always conspicuous, well supported by S. Betts, Surgenor, Watson, Duncan and V. Betts. Dannevirke, facing the sun in the first half, wore rather at a disadvantage, but made a better showing on the change-over. The most cohsnciious Dannevirke players were Hand. Berrett, Dalziell and D. Tolmie. Scorers for Taranaki were L. Betts (3; and Watson (2). For Dannevirke, Dalzell and D. Tolmie scored. Through misdirected hits Taranaki lost many scoring opportunities.
