ROAD THROUGH WAIPU
SEALING PROPOSED. r FURTHER. NEGOTIATIONS. The sealing of the highway through Waipu township has been contemplated by the Whangarei County Council. Mr R. H. P. Ronayne in a letter received read at the council meeting today, estimated that this work, which Would consist of one coat of road oil, would cost Td per square yard. He suggested that, if funds permitted, the •length of road to be treated' be between the post office corner' to the store corner, an approximate length of 40 chains. From the' r 'post office corner to Finlayson’s Road, if the existing road surfaces! permitted, could be sealed (say) 16 feet wide, and from then on to the corner store the existing surface might- permit only a 14ft strip. Of this work,, a portion might be undertaken in November, as then approximately three months’ maintenance would be saved, and the county’s contribution could go towards the cost of sealing, which would be on a £2 for £1 basis. The riding member and the engineer will go into the matter.
