OLD GIRLS AH LAD. HINEMOA DEFEATED. AN INFLATED MARGIN. The eagerly awaited encounter between Hinemoa O asr year's champions) ami Old Girls was the feature match in. the ladies’ mid-week hockey competition yesterday. A very large crowd at Hikurangi was thrilled by the closeness of play. Old Girls deserved to maintain their leadership in the competition, but the score of 3-nil in their favour was flattering. All the goals wore hit in the first half, Miss Tibbils claiming one and Aliss B. Duel two. ' Hikurangi frequently broke through, and Mrs Carnac and Aliss Alaisie Borghau peppered the goal. Their best efforts wore frustrated by the brilliance of the custodian, Aliss Vita Kelly, who prevented at least four certain goals; Other results, were: — A Grade. White Star 2 (Airs Saul and Miss Taylor) beat Horn Horn 0. Wesley A 4 (Alisses P. Stringer, L. Webster, At. Thomson and A. Price) beat Alauugakaramoa 2 (Aliss 0. Snell -,)• High School 3, beat Hula. 1. B Grade. College 1 (Aliss V. Courtney) drew with Portland 1 (Aliss Harris). Kin Ora 3, Wesley 0. Onerahi 3, High School B .1. MEN’S GAMES. TWO GOALS EACH. RAMBLERS AND PIRATES. Pirates held Ramblers to a hardfought draw, each side scoring two goals. From tlie bully Ramblers attacked, and a straggling forward movement, resulted in .1. Beasley goaling, putting the blues in the lead. Pirates retaliated, but were repelled and an attack by the blues broke down. Eloquent interchanges were without result until the blue forwards goi away but George Kerr showed his soreness as a last line of defence, and cleared with a. good whack to the sideline. Half-time came without further addition to the score. On resuming, the whites attacked, but could not press home their advantage, and a long hit by the blues saw Alamo get away and put Ramblers two in the lead. Pirates kept attacking, and were rewarded by Forbes scoring their opening goal. Continual offside breaches by Forbes allowed Ramblers to relieve the pressure, but the Pirates were consistent and, with all forwards and halves in the cirele, managed to pusn the ball into the goal, per Archer. Time sounded soon after with the Ramblers trying hard to regain their lead. The blues were weal; in the half line, and this gave the full-backs more work than necessary. The forwards showed in ocensional flashes, with Beasley and Monro in the limelight. For the Pirates, Everett played well, but .should hit harder. Forbes was offside more than necessary, I nit played a good, fast game. Archer backed up well and is not frightened to rush the play. Gardner and Wilson were sure, and ‘ supported well.
