SHIPPING WARNED DELUGING RAIN IN AUSTRALIAN AREAS. FLOODS CAUSE HAVOC.

The torrential rain which has fallen on the north coast has caused fears of floods on all river systems between the Bellinger and Hunter rivers. Floods of minor creeks have already occurred. As much as seven inches of Tain in 48 hours has fallen in some districts. The rain w r as caused by an energetic cyclonic disturbance, which last night centred between Lord Howe Island and the New r South Wales coast. -A warning has been issued to shiping, indicating south-easterly gales, with rough seas on the north and central coasts. Further heavy rain has fallen in the pastoral districts of Queensland, improving the prospects of the grar.iers and pastoralists, while heavy rain has - also fallen throughout the agricultural areas of West Australia causing floods in some parts and washin several country railways. The • low-lying township of Moora, 108- miles from Perth, which is flooded annually,. is again suffering from ah overflow of water from the creek Which runs through the town. A number of persons have already left their flooded homes and others are preparing to leave.

Tphe roads in the district are under water, ■ and fallen trees have dislocated- the telephone service. Losses of stock- are reported from many places. (Received 10 a.m.) , . PERTH, This Day. Reaching a velocity of 56 miles an hour the gale that has raged for 48 hours has now moderated. Heavy rain continues, however, and there are reports of, damage over a wide area. The Swan River has risen and lowlying ground is flooded. Reports from the country mention damage to railways, roads and wheatlands. Temporary repairs to the railway line at Toodyay wore swept away by flood waters. In other districts roads are under water, and fencing has been washed away.

A serious flood in the Nambucca River at Macksville was imminent last night. The river w r as almost on a level with the main Northcoats road and rain was still falling heavily. The danger of serious inundation on other rivers seem to have passed. Considerable areas of land, nevertheless, arc under water. As much as 13 inches of rain fell in the eentral coast district in 48 hours.
