BURGLARS AT WORK

EXPLOSIVES USED. MISCREANTS BEATEN. (Per Press Assnototion.—conyriKM.3 FETLDINCr, Tine Day. During Tuesday night the drapery premises of John Cobbe and Company, Ltd,, were entered by burglars, who attempted to blow open the strongroom with explosives. Entry to the promises was gained through an upstairs window. 'A charge of explosives was inserted in the lock of tlie strongroom door sufficient to damage the lock, but the mechanism withstood the efforts of the intrudeis to open the door. Apparently the contents of the safe were the sole objective, for no stock was taken. The effects of the explosives was such that the door could noi be opened by ordinary means, and the services of an* expert had to be obtained to gain access to the strongroom.
