METHODIST CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.)

Hollowing appropriate anniversary services on the previous Sunday, conducted by the Rev. H. G. Brown, the further celebrations took the form of a concert in the Jubilee Hall, when there was a good attendance, and the Rev. Brown presided. The assistance of a party of friends from Ruawai, in the musical programme, and of Miss B. Gibson, elocutionist, from Whangarei, was much appreciated, and contributed to make a fine entertainment. The following was the programme: — Violin solo, Mr S. Blanehfield; song, Mr F. .Frean; sketch, “Salt Cellars,’’ the Bible Class; humorous quartette, “Italian-de-Lingo, ” Misses E. Huge and J. Hutchinson, Messrs E. Rouse and W. Jones; recitation, Miss Gibson; song, “For You, Alone,” Mrs H. Steer; sketch “Golf,” the Bible Class; violin solo, Mr S. Blanehfield; duet, “Are You From Dixie?” Mrs H. Steer and Mr F. Frean; recitation, Miss B. Gibson; minstrel quartette, Misses E, Fuge and J. Hutchinson, Messrs E. Rowse and W. Jones; sketch, “Tea Cups,” the Bible Class; closing chorus, “Lay Me Down to Sleep,” the company. Suitable opening and closing recitations were given by Alan Evans. The sketches by ..the Bible Class members were put through in excellent style and the whole programme was most creditable. The proceeds Avill bo devoted to the Church Trust Fund. Settlers’ Telephone Association.

The annual meeting of the above association was held on Wednesday last, Mr E. E. Jenkins presiding. There were about 40 members present. The chairman’s report dealt chiefly with routine business. He stated that a combined conference of the associations had been held last June. The conference had resolved that no action should be taken in regard to altering the present system, in which all the districts are linked up, without first calling a conference of all the associations concerned. Salaries had been reduced to meet the times, the exchange keeper, who formerly received £345, having been subjected to a 10 per cent, and a following 5 per cent, cut, reducing his salary to £204 19/-, and the secretary having been reduced 10 per cent (£SO to £45). A profit of £Bl 9/4 had been made on the year’s working. Membership had been maintained at the same level (approximately 177). Interesting items from the balance sheet were: Members’ subscriptions, £500; members’ goods account (sales); £3O; fixed deposit withdrawn, £SO; administration salaries, £3o8; credit balance at bank, £4l. Transactions for the year ran into £764.

The balance sheet was adopted' without much comment.

The following committee were elected for 1933-34:—Messrs W. R. Betts, H. H. Sutherland, E. E. Jenkins, Tierney, M. Reed, J. Hall and J. Deeming. The outgoing committee were thanked for their .services. Mr E. 0. Aickin was re-appointed auditor.

'At a subsequent meeting of the new committee, Mr E. R, Jenkins was appointed chairman, and Mr D, Nicholas secretary and treasurer.

It is pointed out that though the exchange keeper’s position carries a free house, he had to provide attendance >t the exchange from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and also fixed hours on Sundays and holidavs.'
