GANDHI FAST GESTURE
APPEAL FOR DELAY, (Received 10.30 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, May 2. General Smuts has cabled to Gandhi urging him to delay his proposed fasting, saying; ‘ ‘ You are endangering your life, and your action might lead to a dreadful calamity.”
It is understood that the Government of India will shortly consider its responsibility under gaol rules requiring forcible feeding to prevent death bv starvation.
