.AIR E. W. WATSON

The death has occurred of another of the old settlors of the Wliangarei district, in the passing of Mr ’Ernest Walter Watson, at the age of 70. He was the last of the homeborn members of the Watson family, which was among the first to carve out a home in Manngakaramea.

Mr Watson was born in Essex, Englan, the second son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Watson, and, with his parents, left in ISGI in the sailing ship, Black Eagle, for New Zealand. There were three other children at that time, William who died about six years ago, Mary Ann, later Mrs W. Crawford, who passed away about 17 years ago, and Bose, later Mrs Carmichael, who died only a few months ago.

The family carved out a home in the Manngakaramea district, and Mr Watson lived with his parents until he was married to Miss Daisy Watson, about 48 years ago. The wedding, which was conducted by the Rev. T. P. Hewlett, was the first to be solemnised in the M'aungakaramea. Church. Mr and Mrs Walter Watson then took up farming at Mangapai, and after living there for a good many years, moved to Tamaterau. Mrs Whitson died about two years ago, and Mr Watson went to live with his two sons, Alf and Tom at Ruakaka. It was there that ho passed away, Mr Watson is survived by four sons and two daughters, Miss Linda Watson, of Ruakaka, Mrs Struthers, of Okaihau, Walter, of Tutukaka, William, of Mangapai, and Alf and Tom, both of Ruakaka.

AUCKL A ND, Mon day,

A well-known resident of Devonport, Mr George Falla, died yesterday. He was born in Sydney in 1860, and came to Nelson with his parents nine years later. Ho joined the railway service at Westport in 1879. He was stationmaster at Hawora, Masterton and Invercargill, and was appointed to Auckland in 191;-), retiring five years later. Air Falla was a member of the Devonport Borough Council and the Devonport Chamber of Commerce. He was a strong supporter of the New Zealand Alliance, belonged to the executive of flic Auckland ‘Sunday School Union, and the Council of Christian Congregations. He was a devoted worker in connection with the Presbyterian Church. Mrs Falla survives her husband. There are the following children:--Mesas 11. A. and J. D. Falla, Mrs J. iR, Kilgonr, and Miss H. N.
