MARUA NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

A, dance in aid of the hall funds was held last Wednesday evening. There was a. very fair attendance, but owing to the number of recent entertainments in this and surrounding districts, it was not as large as usual, A bus conveyed patrons from Whaiigarei. Last 'Saturday evening, Miss Alary Steel, whose marriage to Air R. N. Gnlpin will shortly take place, was the guest at a gift evening in her honour. The many contributions were both varied and useful. During the evening after the parcels had been opened by the guest, Air Gnlpin, on her behalf, thanked those present for the gifts bestowed. on them and the kindness shown by the residents of the district. A very enjoyable evening was passed. A dainty supper was served by the ladies.

Master Hoi lie Claris, who was admitted to the Whangarel Hospital last week .suffering from an injured knee, is making satisfactory progress, although he will probably be obliged to remain in that institntioii for a longer period than was at first anticipated.
