MANY NOMINATIONS; WIDE FIELD OF CHOICE. FOURTEEN FOE BOROUGH ■ council;' Splendid nominations have been received for the Whangarei municipal - elections. The candidates proposed, witii the corresponding numbers for the election of May .1931 in parentheses, are: —Mayoralty 2 (2), Council 14((I 21,) 1 , Harbour Board 4 (3) and Hospital Board 5 (4). There was a last minute rush this morning, and the majority of papers were received between 10 o’clock and

noon, the closing’ time. Air W. .(ones, who has occupied the position for two terms, is again seeking re-election to the Mayoralty. He is opposed by Air R. S. Finch, a member of the sitting council.

Members of the present council who are again offering their services are Os, J. Donaldson, .T. E. Holmes, St. C, Jounneanx, G. H. Alorrisli and E. G. W. Tibbits. Another of the nominees, Air A, H. Curtis, was prcviouslv a councillor.

Old councillors who are retiring are: —Alessr-s L. T. Pickmete, R. K. Trimmer and A. T. Brainsby. Air R. S. Pinch is standing for the Alayoralty. Air Jonnneaux had previously a.nnonnced his intention not to seek re-nomination, but, as the result of urgent'pressure at the last minute/ this morning consented to offer : his services. Both the borough representatives on the Harbour Board—Alessrs .1. E. Holmes and P. R. -Gardner —are standing again, and the present members of tin- Hospital Beard —Airs Y. Donaldson and Alessrs W.
