CRICKET?

AN UNUSUAL MATCH. UNDER WHAN GAR IN. RULES. A very keenly fought match between Sunnyvale Ramblers and Seaside Rovers was played over Easter under somewhat peculiar rules, viz.: No limit as to number of balls to an over, no extras to be run owing to pace of bowlers, no gloves, and all members of team to be dismissed before the innings closed. In fact, the last man for Sunnyvale Ramblers held the fort for twenty runs, and did not give up until one fieldsman stopped a hard off-drive with his head, which laid him low for a minute or two, but being pretty hard-headed ho was not hurt. Some club members would envy some fine catches taken, those of Shaw, Madden and Roycroft being particularly good pieces of fielding. The scores were: —

Seaside Rovers, lirst innings, 72 runs (Keith 20, Penney 17, H. Madden 15), Daniels and Cunis shared the bowling honours. Second innings, 38 (Parkes 15, Roycroft. 7, U. Madden 7). Daniels and L. Madden took the rviekets.

Sunnyvale Ramblers, first innings, 48 (Cunis 14, L. Madden !)), Keith, Lett and Irwin sharing the wickets. Second innings, (Hi (Daniels IG, Courtney 10, Madden 28 not out), H. Madden and Parkos, taking the wickets. Sunnyvale Ramblers won by 4 runs. This mutch, was remarkable for the consistency with which one Sunnyvale bowler used ■body-line attack without much success. Seaside Rovers are now waiting for another match, when they will show Ramblers how cricket is played.
