NORTHERN WAIROA RUGBY

ENTHUSIASM SHOWN

NEGLECT ALLEGED

AUCKLAND UNION COMPLAINT,

(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) DAE GA VILLE, Sa t u rda y,

At the annual meeting' of the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union, one of the most enthusiastic meetings in many years, the president, -Mr. F. Clendon Gould, presided. Delegates wore present representing all the district clubs.

The balance-sheet showed that the, union was run at a loss of £llO 1/- last year, after allowing £2B 10/- for depreciation and £B4 15/- for interest, which had not been paid. The president said the union owed £1623 to de-benture-holders, It had borrowed £IOOO from the New Zealand Eugby Union, the debenture-holders having agreed to accept this in full settlement.

The loan has been available since August last, but owing to the fact that the North Auckland Eugby Union has not yet been incorporated, the completion of the loan documents had been held up. At the annual meeting of the North Auckland Union last year, Mr. Gould continued, the necessary resolutions were passed incorporating the union, but it is only in the past fortnight that the matter has been completed by the union, which has to act as a guarantor to the parent body, the New Zealand Union. '‘l feel very strongly the neglect shown by the North Auckland Union,” said Mr, Gould, “as they have placed this union in a false position with its debentureholders, and the loss to this union, both directly and indirectly, has been very considerable. It is hoped that we will be able to complete the transaction within a month. It is only then that we will know the position of the union. It is in the hands of the New Zealand Union whether we are charged interest and sinking fund since August last or from the time the loan is lifted.”

Congratulations were extended to the Kaihu United Club, winners of the 'senior competition; to the Southern Club, winners of the Costello Cup; and to Waima and Dargavillc High School clubs, for winning the junior and third grade competitions. The president moved that it be a recommendation to the North Auckland Union that its headquarters this year be transferred from Whangarei to Kaikohe or to Dargaville, the executive headquarters to rotate at two-yearly intervals between Whangarei, Kaikohe and Dargaville, and that notice of intention to press for such reforms be advised to all sub-unions in the North. The motion was carried unanimously.

The Union extended a free hand to its, delegates in the matter of confirmation or otherwise of the formation of the North Auckland Maori Football Advisory Committee. Officers elected were:—Patron, the Et. Hon. ,1. G. Coates; president, Mr. W. Montgomery; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. W. J. Cuthbcrt and E. Bromwich; lion, auditor, Mr, A. L. Billing; secretary, Mr. .1. E. Elliott; committee, Messrs. E. W. .1. Cuthbcrt (Dargavillc), E. Wilkins (Euawai), T. Kidd (Southern), B. Batger (Kaihn Valley); chairman, Mr. R. W. .1. Cuthbert; delegates to North Auckland Union, Messrs. W. Montgomery and R. W, .1. Cuthbcrt.

The meeting adopted a resolution of appreciation of the services rendered to the union by Mr. Gould and expressed regret that owing to pressure of other duties he had retired from active participation as a member of the management committee.
