WAIOTIRA JUNCTION

SCHOOL PICNIC AND PRIZE

GIVING,

The above function was held in the Waiotira Public Domain last Wednesday, and was an outstanding success. The weather was perfect. Everybody in the district was present, including visitors from Taipulia, Tauraroa am! Whangarei. The program mo of chi!’dren’s and adults’ events was despatched in record time. Immediately after lunch, Father 'Christina's arrived in a beautifully decorated lorry, which carried a large Christmas tree laden with presents. Afterwards Father Christmas spoke a few words to the children and presented, every child with a gift. Even the School Committee were not left out.

The annual prize giving was then commenced, the chairman ot‘ the school 'feommittcc, Mr Cubitt presiding. The prizes were presented by Airs A. Stephen. The chairman in the course of a happy speech referred to Airs Crandle’s appointment as head teacher during the year. Her high qualification as a teacher and the staff's excellence made AVaiotira parents proud of the school. Turning to the-boys, the chairman congratulated them on the splendid manner in which they had looked after the school buildings and grounds. The following is the prize list: — Junior Room.

A very nice supper was handed around, after which the chairman thanked all individually and collectively for their loyal co-operation throughout the day. Air E. H. Hilforß fulfilled the duties of AI.C. in a very capable manner.
