YOUTH FINED

CHARGE OF STEALING. ONE COUNT DISMISSED. Robert Henry Taylor, aged 17, was fined £2 by Mr G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Police Court this morning on a charge of stealing. He pleaded not guilty to stealing at Pakaraka on June 6, an anvil valued at £2 10/-, the property of M. Neumcgin, and admitted stealing at Hukerenui on October 10,-a gramophone reproducer valued at 35/-, the property of L. E. Ralls. Robert James Wilson, farm manager for Mr Neumegin, at Pakaraka said Taylor was employed on the place. Witness missed an anvil and identified that produced in Court as tho one. Taylor had no permission to take the anvil. •. Mr Trimmer: “The accused is very definite that on occasion he asked you if he could take the anvil.’’ Witness: “I never discussed it with him. ’ ’

The first charge was dismissed the magistrate making an order for restitution of the anvil. in regard to the second charge, Sen-ior-Sergeant Powell said accused had taken the article from Mr Ralls’ shop while the owners’ back Avas turned, j Mr Trimmer said accused had got hold of some liquor and had committed the offence. He was fined £2 on that charge. Ho was allowed time to pay.
