SATURDAY’S GAMES. BATSMEN ON TOP. WINS FOR'NOMADS, WHANGAPEI AND ’KARAMEA. Some really line batting was seen at the Reclamation Ground on Saturday afternoon during the cricket competition matches. Both Nomads and Whangarei continued in winning vein. The bowlers had things all their own way in the ’Karamea —Onerahi match, and a game of small totals saw ’Karamea gain victory on the first innings. BRIGHT BATTING. The Whnngarei men gave a great exhibition in their encounter with High School A, and declared their innings closed with 199 on for four wickets. Gash made a good first-wicket stand, notching 32, but then T.awrie and Garland became associated in & partnership which defied the School ■bowling. Playing pretty cricket, Lawrie ran to 88 before he stepped out of his crease to Bourke, and Williams whipped the bails off. Garland was unbeaten for 74, and when Hughes lost his wicket for 1, Whangarei. declared.

School Avere not so successful, and ■ did not recoA'er from a bad start, Ooote and P. Smith kept the Whangarei attack at bay for a time, and, aided by a good innings by Ross and . Bourke, sent School’s tally up to 93 before the side Avas out. They folloAved on, but Whangarei did not liua'C time to do the double, aud had to bo content with a two-pointer. Collins meanwhile had batted attractively for 55, and Brainsby added 19 to bring the total up to 164.
