PROSPECTING FOR GOLD
IJK'TI STRIKE ItRPOPTED. ( r»,rf Press Association. —Copyright.) DFXEDI X, Tliis Day. Xews of a rich strike of gold by -Mi Janies Bell, a farmer of Beaumont and -Mr Leonard Mason, who is in his employ, is reported from Beaumont For the past 1-1 months . Messrs Bel' and Mason have in their spare linn, been prospecting on the property ot Mr Harold Paterson, but they met with indifferent success until about a week ago, when they commenced V strike some good prospects. It is reported that .the results have increased in value, and indicate that rich yields may bo forthcoming when a proper plant for the working of the ground is obtained. The spot on which the prospectors made the find is about a mile and a half below (he Beaumont township toward Chinaman's Flat. Their prospects are not as rich as llie two plains fit Cromwell Flat. They are in hopes that with proper machinery they will be able to reach the bottom, and when this is achieved they will commence exploiting the Held in real earnest. The. report of the discovery caused a, considerable stir in the township, and already there has been a rush to peg off claims. Old. residents of the district, jnlul others well acquainted with the locality consider that Messrs Bell and Mason have struck an old riverbed.
