DOG SHOW

OUTSTANDING

ANIMALS,

THE PEIZE LIST,

COMMENT BY JUDGES,

The Drill HalT is full of barking, happy clogs for the annual show of the North Auckland Kennel Club. The entries are fairly numerous, and the participation of Auckland and Hamilton fanciers particularly large. The secretary, Mr V. Simpson, is receiving a great deal of assistance from Mr R. Marshall, of Auckland, who is one of the best-known breeders in the country.

The Alsatians, which are by far the largest class, will not be judged until this evening.

Mr IT. K. May, who judged the toy dogs, said the standard was very high. He was particularly pleased with some of the King Charles spaniels and Pekinese.

The sporting dogs were judged by Mr Jack Bedford, who said that the local entries were hard-bitten, workmanlike dogs, showing that they are following their natural vocation as working dogs and companions of man. The English Setter bitch was quite outstanding.. The best whippet was also a lino example of the graceful, aristocratic, breed. The champion terriers were fine examples of the national terrier, with that Gvarminty” expression and robust condition to go to ground and bolt their fox, work their rabbit or kill their vermin, which was their natural vocation. The bulldogs were typical of Britain’s national breed.

Mr Bedford was disappointed in tho display of gnu dogs, especially as the district was famed for its shooting men and working dogs. AVhanga rei appealed to him as an ideal centre for establishing a trial club where sportsmen might congregate once a year and see the true beauty of this grand and valuable work.

The show will conclude this even
