DEADLOCK ON WAGES,

No 'agreement was reached in the Conciliation Council proceedings yesterday in the dispute bettveen the typographical workers and the employers. A deadlock was reached on the wages issue, and the proceedings were adjotirncd until November 15. When the hearing was resumed yesterday it was agreed to hold over the disputed classification clause and discuss the wages clauses, which were the principal points in dispute. The employers’ wages proposals provided for a reduction of approximately 0 per cent, from the net rates now being paid. The workers’ counter-pro-posals were on the basis of the existing award. Discussion on the wages clauses occupied the greater part of the day. Although concessions "were mentioned and considered, no finality was reaheed.

The adjournment decided upon is in accordance with the requirements of the amended Act. If no agreement is come .to by November 1; j the present .award will expire one month from tha date of the commencement of the conciliation proceedings.
