HERTZOG ’S PREDICTION. BOTTOM OF DEPRESSION v REACHED. (Received II a.m.) CAPETOWN, September 15. General Hcrtzog, speaking at the National Congress, reiterated bis opinion that they had touched the bottom of the depression, and he predicted that Africa would lead the world in the return'to prosperity. He emphasised that there would be no leaving of the gold standard or devaluationV'While the Nationalists were in powor. The imports for eight months had decreased by £l'>o,ooo,ooo and the exports by £4,000,000, compared with the same period of 1031. The Government must raise a loan in London to meet bank advances and other commitments overseas. The general revenue and railways indicate that each will fall short of the estimates by £2,000,000.
