ROSE BOWL TROPHY. FIRST GAME TOMORROW. tPer Press Association.—copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. ' A special new-Soccer trophy, a rosebowl presented by the Auckland arid Wellington Football Associations, was taken north by the Wellington team which left on the Limited express last evening, and the game at Auckland on Saturday . will be the first to be played for it. Conditions under .which it will be played for in future will be discussed while the Wellington team is in Auckland. The presentation was the outcome of a suggestion made by. the Wellington Association that the New Zealand Council should provide a trophy for a provincial competition when the English trophy was not available. The Council was not in a position to comply with the.request, but the chairman, Mr E. Campbell, said he thought there would be no .difficulty in .securing a bowl or cup. He interested himself in the matter at once, and a trophy has been secured. / The bowl is to be competed for annually between Wellington arid Auckland, the idea being to place hitherto friendly gaincs on a competitive footing in order that they will be more attractive from a “gate” point of view. /The suggestion coming from those who have interested themselves in providing the trophy is that the two provinces should meet twice each year, one in each city, irrespective of which may be the holder. One game should be played early in the season and the other toward the close, when the championships and other competitions are concluded. Owing to the. splendid services rendered to the game by the chairman of ■the New Zealand Council, Mr F. Campbell, the Auckland Football Association lias suggested that the trophy be called the Campbell Rose Bowl, .and confirmation of this is being awaited froht the Wellington Association.
