BUDGET 'SHOWS DEFICIT
RELIEF LEVY LOWERED. (Received II a.m.) ■MELBOURNE, This Day. • The Premier and Treasurer, Sir Stanley Argyle. delivered the Budget speech in the Assembly. The, financial year to June 30 closed w r ith a deficit of £1,(508,322. The deficit for the current financial year w-as estimated at £815,000. New taxation totalling £299,500 w-as proposed. An extension of the income tak to bring under the scope of the Act 390,000 additional taxpayers; the exemption being £.IOO instead' of £2OO, is estimated to yield £232,000. An additional betting tax is expected to return £30,000 and increased stamp duties £37,500. Taxation reductions include a 10 per cent, drop in the unemployment relief tax.
