N. AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY

MEETING YESTERDAY.. “HOME BREW” DEPRECATED MINISTERS EXPRESS ALARM.

The North Auckland Presbytery met yesterday in the Presbyterian Church, Whangarei, the Moderator, the Rev. W. Elliott presiding over a good attendance of ministers and ciders.

On the motion of the Moderator, the clerk was instructed to write a letter of sympathy to Mrs. G, W. Lochore, of Takapuna, on her recent serious illness and wishing her a speedy recovery. The Rev. W. Elliott, M.A., was reelected Moderator for the ensuing year.

Mr Elliott thanked the members of the Presbytery for the honour accorded him.

A letter was received from the treasurer of the General Assembly asking for information as to the amount of salary paid to ministers. The clerk reported he had supplied the infonnation, giving the amount due to each minister by the respective charges. This did not take into consideration any private arrangement between ministers and their committees as to voluntary 10 per cent, reductions.

The Rev. jST. O. White (Dargaville) considered the amount actually received by ministers should be supplied to the treasurer of the General Assembly and entered in the Blue Book. It was resolved that the treasurer be supplied with information showing the amount of stipend actually received by ministers and home missionaries. The Home Mission Superintendent the (Rev. H. Budd) wrote stating that a Sub-committee of the Auckland 'Presbytery had obtained a list of various unemployed camps in the Auckland Province. and asking for the interest of the North Auckland Presbytery. It was suggested that church services, social entertainment, and suitable literature be provided, and should any complaints be made regarding the camps, to forward them on after ascertaining the actual facts. The Moderator stated that the Ministers' Association, Whangarei, had considered the position of the camp at Mangakahia, and the Rev. R. P. Steele, of Titoki, being the nearest minister to the camp, had been asked to do what he

could in the interests of those there. v 1 Mr. Steele stated he had interviewed

the secretary of the Mangakahia . ; Camp’s Local Committee, who express- ' ed willingness to have services. The' j question of expense for transport in ! visiting the camp, also other items, were a serious matter and could not be' pro- -\? vided by the Titoki church. 1 1 Mr. G. H. Morrish moved, and the / Rev. W.
