MISCONDUCT CHARGE
CONTRACT MANIPULATIONS GOODE CASE CONTINUES, bribery ASSERTION. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 23. The Royal Commission, presided over by Mr Justice Thompson, set hp to investigate the charge of misconduct against Mr Charles Joachim Goode, while he was an officer of the Railways Department, continued its sittings today.
Joseph P. Davis, cartage contractor to the railways, said he had had some dealings concerning a motor car, which, after its purchase in 3925, was registered in Goode’s name. Ho also gave Goode cheques for £IOO and £3lO for the purchase of some land at the seaside in 1928.
Goode had said he had undertaken to buy the land, and asked witness to take it over. Goode also told him he wanted £2OO at the end of November, 1929.
"Witness said lie drew a cheque for. £l5O, cashed it and handed the notes to Goode, who gave him no receipt, nor did witness'ask'for one, as he treated it as a private loan. Before the sitting adjourned his Honour said the Government had extended the terms and scope of the inquiry to enable' the commission to ask Goode whether he had received any cohsidera-, tioii 'or money from persons or firms.
