MOTORISTS TRAPPED. NO EXCUSES TAKEN. “BOUNTIFUL HARVEST.” ■ CHRISTCHURCH,' Thursday. The biggest trap for tardy motorists that has been operated in Canterbury was set yesterday, when all local bodies combined in a hunt for licenses, and from Amberley to Timaru the highways were patrolled by traffic inspectors, who stopped every car that passed. If things were in order a little green disc was pasted on the windscreen. No excuses were taken. The license had to'be produced, and he who had left it at home could not claim the green sign of "immunity. :
The harvest was • considerable.--''-Tii' censes wore the main ' object- of-the* widespread net, but other fish -were gathered in as ‘ well. In several ' instances lorry and truck drivers" had not complied with' the heavy' traffic regulations, and in isolated eases gistration plates had not received proper attention. • ■ ' -
Inspectors have had mam r examples of the man who ‘.‘left.it in.his other suit,” or “on the mantelpiece' in the diningroom, ” but today such- -excuses fell on deaf cars.
People have all sorts ~ ' of, 'secret places in their ears for the safe and handy keeping of their.; licenses,-;'but the record surely goes Johad his tacked on to ,the bottom cof the driving seat and had to spend.?five minutes with a hammer -.in a -gymnastic position before he could, produce it.- '-A-'.
