PIONEER SETTLER PASSES

MRS. E. S. MORTLOCK. (Special to-“ Northern Advocate.”) HAWEBA, This Day. A pioneer settler of the district when it was covered with bush, Mrs. Ellen Sophia Mortlock, died at Hawera yesterday, aged 7d. She came to Mew Zealand as a child in 18(50 with her father, Mr. dames Linn, a Crimean and -Maori War veteran, and avus married iu Taranaki ad years ago. Her husband died -11 years ago.

Mrs. Mortlock leaves three sons (William, of Norman by, Poiiert of llawera, and dames, of Christchurch), and ten grandchildren.
