LION IN SCULLERY

ALARMING- EXPERIENCE,

LONDON, February 14. ' A lion which escaped from its cage on the fair-ground at Bloxwich, a sub urb of Walsall, Staffordshire, last night, climbed a wall into the garden ; of a house, and when the back door,. , was open coolly walked in and stalked through to the scullery. Apparently the door of’its cage had been insecurely fastened and its escape was not noticed. Between six and'w seven o’clock Mrs Parsons, who lives in Church Street, which adjoins the fair-ground, went into her garden to empty a teapot. She saw an object , which she thought was a little girl who visits the house, and she walked up and touched it, ' hut feeling the lion’s coat she ran back to the.house.

The lion followed her, and when it walked into the light- and Mrs Parsons saw what it w T as she screamed arid ran into the front room. The lion walked through the back door and into the scullery. Mrs Parson’s husband slammed the door and they both dashed through the front door to the street and notified the police.

The owner of the lion and its trainer fetched its cage (in which the lioness had remained) .arid backed .It against, the front door, and the animal quietly walked into it arid was taken hack to the fair-ground. .
