“We have had no reply from the I lepartnient, which is simply <lii IS' <1: 1 11 vin;with Hie mailer,’’ said Mr. (K. Wilson, in moving, at yesterday’s
meeting (d the Wailomo ( oiiut v Council, that the Native Minister lie
again written to in regard to native
rales exemption
The position, it was explained, was that native rates were exempted by the Department for a period of two years up to I9MO. The council had then written suggesting that if it would facilitate the • eousolidation scheme in hand, the council was prepared to allow a further extension. As the period for which the council was prepared to let the matter stand over had expired, the latter had written to the department asking that, in view of the extension, which was apparently being carried on sine die, the council should receive some monetary consideration.
