BENEFITS TO WORKLESS
BRITAIN’S HUGE DISBURSEMENT. STILL MORE NEEDED. (Receive*! 12.h0 p.m.) RUGBY, Juno 11. Tlio Parliamentary Labour Party hold a special mooting today to consider the lirst report of the Royal Commission on unemployment benefits. The Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, and the Foreign Secretary. Mr. Arthur Henderson, both made statements. Seveal questions were answered and the meeting expressed confidence in the way the Government was dealing with the matter.
In Parliament this afternoon, the Prime Minister answered in the negative a question as to whether it was proposed to call a three-party conference for the further consideration of the whole question of unemployment insurance, now that the interim report had been published.
The Minister of Labour, Miss Margaret Boiidfiehl, answering a question, said the amount of Treasury advances to the unemployment insurance fund to date was £ So,(120,00(1, leaving a balance of borrowing powers of £4,;>50,000. That was likely to be exhausted early in July, and further provision would be necessary before that time.
