THE REGENT. "A WARM CORNER.'' The Regent Theatre was “A Warm Corner" in nioi’e ways than one last evening, when, in addition to the new successful heating arrangement,‘ the talkie version of the play of that name was . screened for the • second time. It attracted another large audience. The cast is an all-British one, a class which is proving so attractive to Whangarei picture-goers. Fun was the Ipynote. The leading part is jii the capable hands of Leslie Henson, the renowned English comedy actor, and the story abounds with witty dialogue and hilarious, situations. With excellent and varied supports, “A Warm Corner' ’ at the New Regent should be the rendezvous for those seeking a good Saturday night entertainment. Tonight will be the dual screening.
TOWN HALL TONIGHT.
* ‘ CALL OF* THE FLESH. ’ ’ NGVARRO’S LATEST. •The rise'of a young Spanish singer to the heights’of operatic fame as the result of a vivid love affair is the theme of'"Ramon Novarro ’s latest alltalking picture, "Gall of the Flesh/’ playing at tlie Town Hall tonight and Monday. The* production is undoubtedly the best in which the talented star has been seen since the advent of the talkies. The story sustains a high pitch of interest from the first reel to its spectacular climax while the seepes set a new note for picturesque back-
grounds. However, one of the outstanding attractions of the new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayor vericle Is its musical deta ; l of which the talented Novarro takes Nil advantage.
The acting is uniformly excellent, Novarro bringing an impetuous wanpth to 3ns role and again revealing his flair for" light comedy, while supporting roles played by Dorothy Jordan, Ernest Torrence, Nance O’Neil, Renee Adoree, Mathilda Comont and Russell Hopton leave nothing to be desired. The direction of Charles Brabin in-, dicates a shrewd knowledge of photo graphic detail and a sense of camera angles which result in a number of striking effects.
Chapter 2 of the all talkie serial “Idians are Coming” is also screening with three other good short -items. Bos Plans are at Laurie’s.' Phone 402. 257
