BLAZE AT SURFDALE

HOUSE AND OARAGE LOST.

AUCKLAND, This Day.

A large six-roomed house, (together with a garage and a motor-lorry, was burned to the ground at Surfdale last evening. There was nobody in- this house at the time of the fire, which it is thought originated in the garage, ab though there was no petrol stored there. The property was owned: by Mr Charles Johnson. The house : had been only intermittently occupied ‘ dur* ing the last three weeks.

The blaze was first noticed about 11.30 p.m. by Mrs Patterson, the next* door neighbour. (She gave the alarm, but the bucket brigade, which 'was quickly formed, could do no more than save her residence and the adjoining building;
