WITHDRAWAL OF PRIVILEGE. (Per ?jcm« Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Free railway tickets for earthquake refugees in Wellington arc to be withdrawn next week. Hundreds of refugee?. are still staying in Wellington, and the majority, it is considered, ha*ve no good reason for further delay. Applications for free passages on the railway must be lodged with .the Red Cross Society before Tuesday next. LABOUR CONFERENCE DECISIONS ARRIVED AT. (Per Pres* Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The recently re-established Federation of Trades and Labour Councils held a conference during the Easter holidays, when delegates were present from Auckland, Canterbury and ’Wellington. Mr W. Bromley presided. It was decided that the National Council of the Federation be located in Wellington for the ensuing year, and that the political expression of the Federation shall be through the New Zealand Labour Party, which the Federation will support and render cooperation. The conference unanimously decided to "place upon record its appreciation of the magnificent tight put up on behalf of the workers by the Parliamentary Labour Party against the Finance Bill introduced by the Government. ’ ’ The Government’s unemployment scheme was generally condemned by all the speakers. An expression of confidence was voiced in the Labour representatives on the Unemployment Board. It was decided to retain proportional representation as a plank of the party platform, and the National Executive was instructed to inquire into the systems of proportional representation in operation ,iu other parts of the world.
