Fuller and Sous to erect two signs over their garage, projecting over the road, was much discussed, the board being uuani-mous.-in agreeing that signs were an eyesore and if granted to one would have, to be granted to another. It was resolved that the request be answered as follows: “That it is the board's intention to prevent all signs overhanging the roadway." Mr E. V. Hooper, engineer in charge of Contract A, wrote, passing the work. Road Contract Trouble, Comr. Graham said he was not satisfied that an even grade had been obtained as' per specification. The chairman admitted it Was not quite an even grade, being a few inches out, and 1 went on to say that soon after *thb job was started Mr Hooper had to go away on urgent business, and, that he (the chairman) had to take charge of the work. There was a bit of a mix-up, as the temporary plan left by Mr Hooper did not agree with the specifications, and the contractors were inclined to finish up at peg 12, but* he told them that they had tendered for an even grade Hght through and were to carry on accordingly. He spent days looking after the work, and could say he had seen many worse jobs passed. The weather had been perfect, and for the sake of a few inches it was better to leave the road as it was, as any rain . during further work would make an unholy mess. That final payment be 1 made was proposed by Comr. Anderson, and Comr. Graham seconded the motion, reserving 4,0 himself the right to have something further to say if the road was not the 16 feet as specified—which he doubted -—and that all contracts should be carried out' according to specifications. The motion was carried. General. It was decided to metal Robertson Street with Matawhi shingle, and that York Street and The Strand be also metalled.
