SPECIAL SESSION
WORK RESUMES TOMORROW. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF BILL. EIGHTY CLAUSES. i (Special to “Northern Advocate.’’) - WELLINGTON, This Day. Legislators on resuming work or Wednesday will have a heavy programme to complete. The Earthquake Relief Bill is the first business to be given attention. Its SO clauses include several relating to the proposed insurance surtax, which is likely to be strongly contested. The Mortgagors Relief Bill is also awaiting consideration, and, as forecasted; the PrimeMinister, the Rt. Hon: G. W. Forbes, intends introducing the current year’s taxation proposals this session, as they are an essential part of the Government economy programme. Legislation is also needed for some portions of the Cabinet Economy Committee’s recommendations, which include the merging of smaller departments. It is reported that there is a considerable difference of -opinion regarding the Government proposal to change-the railway control, and, as the legislative programme is already so extensive, the Railway Bill might require to be postponed until the main session for consideration, together with a wider scheme for the co-ordination of the Dominion’s transport systems.
