DAMAGE TO PORT HOBART
GREATER THAN EXPECTED. SURVEY TO BE MADE. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) WELLINGTON, This Day. It is now ascertained that the Port Hobart, which struck a submerged object off Cape Taurakirae, will have ,to be placed in dry dock in order to establish the exact amount of damage, which is regarded at the moment to be serious. Tho vessel berthed at the King’s Wharf on Saturday afternoon, but ad oil was still escaping from the rent a coffer-dam was constructed along tho port side to prevent its spread. The Port Hobart, which arrived at Wellington from New York, via Auckland, has a fairly large quantity of general cargo to discharge at Welling-, ton and New Plymouth. The vessel was to have left Wellington today for New Plymouth to complete discharge. ■lt is not known at present whether she will go to Auckland or Port Chalmers to be dry-docked for survey and repairs.
