THE BOY SCOUTS

AN INTERESTING PARADE

The Boy Scout movement in Whangarei is being resuscitated by the energy of the present Scoutmaster, Mr j IT. Whellau, and the, efforts of the j patrol leaders under him. To what {an extent the movement is growing vas shown" when, on Thursday night, tho local. Scouts paraded with the Waipu pipers. They raised their totem pole high, and made quite a bright little spot in the march to the Water Trough corner. In the vestibule of the Regent Theatre, they had a table pn which the trophies they had won or which had been presented to them were displayed. There was the fine shield presented to the local troop by Mr 11. C. Ferguson, their late scoutmaster, and three handsome cups won by them in various competitions, one being for signalling, another for cart ticking, and tho third and not least, fer life saving. The shield is now held by the Kiwi patrol. Tho local troop is gaining recruits and is on tire step to success. A feature of their display on Thursday, was their neatness of dress and their good behaviour. Parents should endeavour to assist this most useful means of training boys to “Bo Prepared.”
