ALLEGED FRAUD
j CASE AGAINST A MINER., I (Per Press Association. —Copyright.! r : PALMERSTON N., Friday. A native of Alaska, Edward Ralph Martin, described ae a miner, was charged in the Police Court yesterday I that, having falsely represented that 1 he was a qualified geologist and an experienced miner, he obtained from Samuel James Rossiter the sum of £25. He was also charged that by falsely stating that he was a qualified geologist and a miner and had located gold in considerable quantities at Tohomaru, he had obtained £2O from W.m. Gordon Simpson. Detective Barling said he had been introduced to accused as Professor Martin, a man who had discovered gold at Tokaraaru. Martin said mining was in his blood and he could absolutely smell gold. Evidence was also given regarding accused’s representations concerning claims at Tokomaru. He pleaded not guilty and was then committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed.
