MAIR MEMORIAL
SITE AT PARK GATES, COUNCIL ADHERES TO DECISION. Recently a deputation comprising Messrs L. W. Nelson, H. C. Biahwortli, R. G, Hosking ami H. W. Crawford waited upon the Borough Parks Committee, urging very strongly that the current place for the proposed memorial to Mr Robert Mail- was at Hie head of Uurimoki Road.. The matter was discussed at the Borough Council meeting last night. Ur. Tibbits said that if the borough were finding the money he would have insisted on the memorial being placed at the park gates, but as the contributors 'were so unanimous in their desire he thought it would be just as well to agree. He contended that the park had been given to the people, and the road acquired -under a separate agreement altogether, but the deputation wished , the memorial to be placed in such a position that people using the toad would see it. If, as he suggested, a concession was made the memorial would 1 be removed from the toad approach within a few years. Or. Jackson: ‘‘But Air Mair gave the park, not the street. Who Will be responsible for the removal of the memorial when this becomes necessary?"
The foil owing motion was thou earricii. on thr? initiative of Cr. Piekmere: “That the eouneil regrets that it cannot accede to the proposal to place the memorial at the road entrance, and requests that it be built at the park gates. ”
