INCREASE IN RATES

LESS MONEY 'FOR STREETS. I PARKS VOTE CUT DOWN'. In ■presenting a statement of estimated receipts and payments in t!ie various accounts of the Whauguroi Borough Council for tire year ending March 31, 1931, .the Town Clerk reported as follows at last night’s meeting of that body;— The statement also shows tiro estimated and actual receipts and payments for the past year, an innovation •which 1 trust will he of benefit to councillors in dealing with the estimates. A consolidated rate ®f 7d and 5-Jd in the £ is suggested, an increase of Id in the £, being the seeond increase of Id in the £ required to meet the. interest and sinking fund charges on the -Sewer Extension Loan. The amount available, for' streets maintenance and repairs, footpath construction, etc., will bo £OI4O, ,as compared with £OBIS last year.

The Parks Committee has cut down its estimate from £IOOO to £BSO. The Library Committee’s estimates show an estimated dr. balance at March 31, 1931, of £IOB. No moneys wall be transferred from waterworks account to general account this year, as an increased amount will be required for interest and sinking fund charges.

It is proposed to make a special appropriation to sinking fund of £l5O on the housing account. An amount, of £123 will be transferred from general account to make up the* deficiency on cemetery account. The Main Highways account shows an estimated amount of £390 available for expenditure on continuation* of main highways. The estimated net profit on the electricity account i» £4103, which amount will be absorbed by estimated capital expenditure. The report was received.
