OBITUARY

MRS A. F. THOMSON.

There will be widespread regret when it becomes known that Mrs A. F. Thomson, of Whangarei, passed away yesterday afternoon. The deceased ladj r , who was in her fifty-sec-ond year, had enjoyed fairly good health until about six months ago, when she became seriously ill. She entered a private hospital in Auckland and underwent a yiajor operation. She spent a month in the hospital, and subsequently a fortnight in a convalescent home prior to returning to her own home. She received every care and attention, but unfortunately did not improve, and she passed away yesterday, after bearing her severe illness with great fortitude. The deceased lady, who was the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Porter, of Akaroa, where she was born, married Mr A. F. Thomson when she was 20 years of age. Mr Thomson, who was a member of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, was transferred to various towns and was accompanied by his wife and family. Eventually, in 1915, they took up residence in Whangarei, where Mr Thomson had been appointed manager of the of New Zealand, a position which he held until he retired some three years ago. Mr Thomson purchased the estate of the date Mr Moody in 1918, and ithe family have resided there ever .since. In addition to the bereaved husband, a family of five sons and two daughters are left to mourn the loss of a devoted mother who always placed the interests of her loved ones before everything elsle. The sons are: Douglas (on ;the staff of Messrs Rishworth and Harrison, Whangarei), Cyril (in business in Sydney), Keith (at the Dental College, Dunedin), Sydney (engaged in farming at Paparoa) and Basil (who is attending school). The daughters are Mrs H. Kean Clark (Whangarei) and Miss Loris Thomson. To the bereaved family and other relatives sincere sympathy will be extended, The funeral will take place at the Maunu Cemetery tomorrow afternoon.
